Since 2019, Covington has been a strategic partner to SMPDD, supporting key activities for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (USEPA) Brownfields Assessment Grants program.
Over two separate contracts, (2019-2022, 2023-2027), Covington has been responsible for leading and assisting with grant management activities, community outreach and engagement, development of site inventories, environmental assessments, and Brownfield planning and site re-use planning. Work has included Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESA), removal and closure of underground storage tanks, preparation of Analysis of Brownfields Cleanup Alternatives, updates to the USEPA ACRES database, quarterly and annual reporting, development of generic and site-specific Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPPs), preparation of Health and Safety Plans (HASP), and other similar and related activities.
Over the course of both contracts, all activities have been performed in accordance with all USEPA and State Brownfields requirements. Covington’s success is based on our decades of local environmental and community outreach experience, expertise in state and federal environmental regulations and protocols, and strong working relationships with staff at Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) and USEPA Region IV.
