In 2014, the City of Biloxi received a $400,000 Brownfields Assessment Grant from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for environmental assessments of brownfields sites. A brownfield site is real property, the expansion, redevelopment, or reuse of which may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant. CovingtonĀ is a Mississippi Commission of Environmental Quality approved brownfields consulting firm, and was selected by the City of Biloxi to assist the City in all tasks associated with the project including project management and reporting, environmental site assessments, community outreach, and the preparation of redevelopment plans.
