The project is an approx. 17.5-acre remnant patch of southern mixed hardwoods within an urban setting located on East Railroad Street in Gulfport, Mississippi. It has long been a favorite site for coast birders, with more than 200 species recorded on the property. This renowned birding site is listed on the Audubon Mississippi Coastal Birding Trail and currently has a paved walkway around the entire perimeter of the park. This Project is designed to restore native plantings and enhance the current wetlands, add additional stone paved walking trails within the interior of the Park, construct an observation deck and stone retaining wall overlooking a new pollinator garden and strategically place educational signage throughout. The property is bounded to the west by a 1,598-foot segment of the spring fed Coffee Creek that flows north-south through the bottomland forest and connects to directly to the Mississippi Sound.
