The City of Diamondhead was experiencing an increase in runoff due to upstream development and sought to analyze its own local drainageways to evaluate potential downstream infrastructure impacts. Using a holistic approach to analyze the drainage system, the Covington team has surveyed and analyzed approximately 25% of the City’s major drainageways and subbasins in preparation of the Master Drainage Plan. The analyses considered both existing conditions and anticipated future flows based on development and usage potential. Once complete, Covington will present recommendations to the City. The team anticipates these recommendations to include increasing drainage sizes to more efficiently move stormwater through the system and adding storage capacity to slow the stormwater flowrate. After the team presents recommendations, Covington will group individual projects together as they make sense, and prioritize projects based on the level of benefit the City will realize from the improvement.
